| The Current Treatment Options journals were developed out of the recognition that it is increasingly difficult for specialists to keep up to date with the expanding number of treatment options published in their subject. Current Treatment Options in Oncology aims to help the reader by providing in a systematic manner: |
| 1. the views of experts on current treatment options in oncology in a clear and readable format, and |
| 2. selections annotated by experts of the most interesting papers from the great wealth of original publications. |
| Division of the subject into sections |
| The subject of oncology is divided into a number of major sections, each of which is reviewed once a year. Each issue contains two or three of the major sections. Each section is reviewed by leading authorities who are asked to give their expert opinion on treatment methods for each disease. The amount of space devoted to each section is related to its importance and the number of diseases falling under that classification. |
| Selection of topics |
| Editors for each section, who are major authorities in the field, are appointed by the Editor-in-Chief. They divide their section into a number of topics, ensuring that the treatment options for each subject are comprehensively covered, including emerging therapies. Section editors commission manuscripts from leading workers in the relevant fields for each topic that they have selected. |
| Articles and authors |
| Contributors write succinct articles in which they present the treatment options that they consider most effective for their subject in a preset, easy-to-read format. In addition, they select and provide short annotations of the papers that they consider to be of greatest interest from all those published in their subject over the past few years. This selected bibliography is printed at the end of each article. |
| The costs of the drugs listed under the “cost effectiveness” heading are based on the average wholesale prices listed in the Drug Topics Red Book (Medical Economics Co., Montvale, NJ) for the appropriate year. Costs will vary, but we have chosen the least expensive alternative listed in this publication as a basis for comparison of acquisition costs. |
